AP Physics – Networked Improvement Community

Lucas Education Research

Lucas Education Research has been funding the University of Washington to develop a new project-based curriculum for AP Physics I. As part of the refinement process of this curriculum, a networked improvement community (NIC) was created composed of the curriculum developers, a group of teachers piloting the curriculum, and education researchers.  Horizon Research, Inc. is serving as an outside reflector for the NIC work, identifying key findings from the work and considering implications for: (1) revisions to the curriculum, (2) educative supports for the curriculum, and (3) going to scale with the initiative.

High School Longitudinal Study 2009

Funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 is followed a cohort of students beginning as they entered 9th grade to better understand how their plans, background, and circumstances when they began high school were linked to their decisions about course-taking and to their plans and experiences following high school. The study emphasized mathematics achievement, course taking, and post-secondary decisions. RTI International is conducted the study. As a subcontractor, HRI designed questionnaires for the Base Year for science and mathematics teachers as well as school guidance counselors. For the First Follow-up, HRI  designed questionnaires for school administrators and guidance counselors.

Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (FCR-STEM)

Horizon Research, Inc. provided technical assistance to the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (FCR-STEM). FCR-STEM was authorized and funded by the Florida Legislature to help the State of Florida improve K–12 teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and prepare students for higher education and STEM careers in the 21st century.
