Integrating Computational Thinking into the Insights Elementary Science Curriculum

Organization(s): Education Development Center (EDC)
Funding agency: National Science Foundation
Program: STEM+C
HRI Role: Evaluation

Project Description
“Integrating Computational Thinking into the Insights Elementary Science Curriculum” is a five-year, NSF-funded project that aims to address the need for elementary science curriculum materials aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The project is developing five modules, three at the first-grade level and two at the fourth-grade level, that emphasize the NGSS 3-dimensional approach to learning science. Additionally, the project is looking for ways to infuse and highlight computational thinking into the modules in accessible, age-appropriate ways, an approach that has not historically been part of most elementary science materials.

Evaluation Services
HRI’s evaluation includes providing feedback on project processes (e.g., curriculum development, professional development) and providing feedback on drafts of project products. HRI is also examining the rigor of project research efforts and quality of project outcomes.
