The Mathematics Specialist in K–5 Schools: Research and Policy Pilot Study project was supported by the Teacher Professional Continuum of the National Science Foundation and operated by Virginia Commonwealth University. The overall goal of the project was to determine the effectiveness of a school-based Mathematics Specialists program. The project developed and tested a pilot program to prepare, deploy, and support a total of 24 Mathematics Specialists in Virginia. HRI served as the external evaluator for the project.
