Horizon Research served as the external evaluator to the STEM II project, led by researchers at Michigan State University. The project’s activities included analysis of the treatment of measurement topics in elementary grades textbooks, development of programs for supporting pre-service and in-service teachers’ learning about the teaching of measurement topics, and a research “mini-center” that convened the major education research groups in the nation working on measurement topics in the elementary grades. HRI’s evaluation work examined the effectiveness of the pre-service and in-service programs for teachers, and the contributions of the mini-center to developing the nation’s capacity for high-quality education research on topics in measurement.
