Engineering Is Elementary: Exploring the Efficacy of Engineering Is Elementary

The Museum of Science is studying the efficacy of its Engineering Is Elementary curriculum. The study is examining the impact of the curriculum on student learning and teachers’ use of the curriculum to determine the core elements of the curriculum that support successful use. The study examines the implementation of the curricular materials in a number of contexts to more fully understand the conditions under which they work best and to explicate what aspects of the materials most support student learning. Horizon Research, Inc. serves as the external evaluator for the project.

Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (FCR-STEM)

Horizon Research, Inc. provided technical assistance to the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (FCR-STEM). FCR-STEM was authorized and funded by the Florida Legislature to help the State of Florida improve K–12 teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and prepare students for higher education and STEM careers in the 21st century.

Evaluation of NSF’s Traineeship Programs: The IGERT and GK–12 Programs

Abt Associates, Inc.

NSF’s GK–12 program funds projects that provide graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines with training that will prepare them for professional and scientific careers. The projects establish relationships between graduate students and teachers in K–12 schools, with the goal of improving graduate students’ communication and teaching skills while enriching STEM instruction in K–12 schools. Abt Associates conducted an evaluation of the GK–12 program. As a subcontractor, HRI designed questionnaires for K–12 teachers and district coordinators, as well as provided technical assistance on the overall evaluation.
