Northwest Earth and Space Science Pipeline

The Northwest Earth and Space Science Pipeline (NESSP) project is a collaboration among organizations from Montana, Oregon, and Washington. The overarching goal of this NASA-funded project is to create a regional network that provides learning opportunities integrating NASA-related content and materials for middle and high school students and teachers in order to increase the number and diversity of students entering and staying in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics pipeline.

Horizon Research, Inc. serves as the external evaluator for the project.

Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (FCR-STEM)

Horizon Research, Inc. provided technical assistance to the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (FCR-STEM). FCR-STEM was authorized and funded by the Florida Legislature to help the State of Florida improve K–12 teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and prepare students for higher education and STEM careers in the 21st century.

Evaluation of NSF’s Traineeship Programs: The IGERT and GK–12 Programs

Abt Associates, Inc.

NSF’s GK–12 program funds projects that provide graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines with training that will prepare them for professional and scientific careers. The projects establish relationships between graduate students and teachers in K–12 schools, with the goal of improving graduate students’ communication and teaching skills while enriching STEM instruction in K–12 schools. Abt Associates conducted an evaluation of the GK–12 program. As a subcontractor, HRI designed questionnaires for K–12 teachers and district coordinators, as well as provided technical assistance on the overall evaluation.

Local Systemic Change (LSC)

National Science Foundation

NSF contracted with HRI to develop a common evaluation system and provide technical assistance in evaluation to projects funded under its LSC project. The primary goal was to improve instruction in science, mathematics, and technology through teacher professional development. The system included observations of classrooms and professional development activities, as well as questionnaires and interviews.
